The Ashanti regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has been asked to step down from his position as the regional Chairman by a group affiliated to the party.
The group known as Patriotic Front Liners believe the regional Chairman , Bernard Antwi-Boasiako otherwise known as Chairman Wontumi is acting contrary to what he ought to do as chairma.
According to the group, there is a video which is being circulated online in which the chairman is seen campaigning for a presidential aspirant of the party. But they believe it against the rules of the game as the leadership of the party has bared anyone to campaign because it is not yet time for the election.
In the said video, Chairman Wontumi is seen openly campaigning for Dr. Bawumia to be elected as the party’s flag bearer in the upcoming presidential race.
We refer to a viral video making rounds on various traditional and social media platforms where the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Chairman Bernard Antwi Bosiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is seen openly declaring his support and coercing MPs, Constituency Chairmen, and respectable party leaders in the region to do same with his infamous “Bawumia Must Win (BMW)” chant.

They therefore, call on the regional chairman to step down. ” Without mincing words, we are by this release calling on the Regional Chairman of the stronghold of the party who should know better to STEP DOWN as the Regional Chairman of the Party as he has lost every opportunity to serve as an independent arbiter in the upcoming Presidential Primaries of the NPP before our next action”.

Our checks have revealed that, the video emanated from a dinner meeting arranged for all constituency chairman and some selected MPs in the Ashanti Region with the sitting Vice President (Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia) at the Lancaster Hotel formerly known as Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi on Friday 30th December, 2022.
We write to condemn this action by our Regional Chairman in no uncertain terms. This very bizarre conduct of the Regional Chairman doesn’t come to us as a surprise because Chairman Wontumi has on countless occasions openly declared his support for Dr. Bawumia and continue to work for his presidential ambition. He has blatantly defied and disrespected the General Secretary of the NPP Party, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, in his attempt to bring the unfortunate conduct of Chairman Wontumi under control.
This is also yet another evidence of the many underground campaign activities of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in meeting delegates across the country to advance his presidential ambition ahead of other competent candidates and in blatant abuse of office and an affront to the guiding principles covering the conduct of the NPP Presidential Elections. We want to bring attention of the leadership of the party to this unfortunate development.
