Zipline commissions drone delivery center in Cross River State of Nigeria to improve UHC

To help the Cross River State administration fulfill its objective to promote access to universal health coverage for all, Zipline has commissioned another facility in Nigeria.

The building, one of three that will be constructed, is located in Cross River State’s Ndok village, which is part of the Ogoja LGA.

The facility, which is the result of a collaboration between Zipline and the Cross River State government, is comparable to one that was recently inaugurated in Kaduna State and ensures logistics and medical supplies, such as vaccines, blood, and pharmaceuticals, reach communities more quickly than they do now.

At the facility’s opening, Cross River State Governor Prof. Ben Ayade stated that achieving universal health coverage has become vital, which is why the state government is utilizing Zipline’s cutting-edge technologies to promote equity in medical care, particularly for low-income earners.

Prof. Ayede’s Comments on Zipline

Prof. Ayade stated that the Ndok facility would function as a hub for the storage and fulfillment of vaccines and other medical necessities, acting as the primary supplier of medical supplies and making deliveries to over 300 health facilities in the nearby towns and villages of Obaliko, Obudu, and Obura.

“Let me, on behalf of the entire people of Cross River State, thank you for bringing this intervention to our State. Your technology is an innovation that has come to save lives, and as a state, we’ll continue to work assiduously to make sure the company strives. The lives of our people are now in good hands because of what I’ve seen here today. I can confidently say that we’re very close to achieving universal health coverage. Be assured of maximum security, a peaceful working environment, and a continuous synergy even with the next administration.” – Governor Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade said.

According to Prof. Ben Ayade, “the facility is projected to provide medical supplies dependable anywhere in the state because the drones can geolocate with 99.9% accuracy, making it possible to complete travel autonomously.” He further reassured the populace that the Zipline will result in a decline in death rates and a reduction in health issues brought on by malaria, child ailments, and snake bites.

The distribution center is the first of three centers that the state plans to construct, and it will act as a major supplier of medical supplies to a number of hospitals there so that patients may receive care quickly. Since August 2022, when operations in Kaduna State got underway, Zipline has successfully delivered goods to a number of hospitals, saving a number of lives.

Zipline General Manager’s Remarks

The general manager of Zipline, Madam Catherine Odiase, remarked

“One of the unique features of Zipline operations is the capacity of the drone technology to deliver medical supplies under any weather conditions instantly. Suppose a child in an area like Bekwarra needs medical attention, but the health facility lacks the required medical product, the facility can contact Zipline, and delivery would be made to save that child’s life within minutes “.

She emphasized that “Zipline’s technology is simple, reliable, and fast, and it will help reduce the mortality rate in the state and provide quality health care services for all people.”

Since it began operations in 2016, Zipline, the world leader in instant logistics deliveries, has established itself as a household name for the quick transfer of medical logistics, making a delivery every two minutes on average.

The State has more than 100 difficult-to-reach villages where many indigenous people have difficulty getting to vital health supplies. The facility will break down access obstacles, offer locals employment possibilities, and provide timely access to medicines, vaccines, and other healthcare goods throughout the year.
