Dumelo and Nuamah battle for the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat in NDC

Prior to the party’s primaries on May 13, 2023, two members of the National Democratic Congress are considering running for the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat.

John Dumelo, an actor and businessman, and Fred Nuamah, an actor, are competing to secure a spot on the NDC ticket.

The seat had just one candidate earlier this month, Fred Nuamah, who is also a newcomer to the race.

The actor declared his intention to run against Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the election for Ayawaso West Wuogon.

Until to this, John Dumelo, a former candidate on the NDC platform, had his eye on the Oti Region SALL seat.



Yet it appears that the actor has reversed course in response to advice from his family and, as the actor claims, his constituents.

On Sunday, February 26, 2023, John Dumelo tweeted, “After thorough deliberation with my God, my family, and our party faithful in Ayawaso West Wuogon. He declared, “This is the second coming.

Particularly for parliamentary primaries, Ayawaso West Wuogon is well renowned. After certain electoral incidents resulted in the shooting of about 18 people in 2019, it gained even more notoriety.

Here is some information about both of the celebrities running for the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat.

John Dumelo:

John Dumelo was born on February 3, 1984 in Hohoe in the Volta Region in Ghana. He had his basic education at the Christ the King International School in Accra where his acting career began. He was the character ‘Saka’ in the movie ‘Baby Thief’ at 7 years.

His secondary education was at Achimota School and thereafter he starred in his first soap opera, Suncity. After this, he went to KNUST where he completed with a degree in Civil Engineering.

In 2016, the actor turned politician campaigned for the NDC and was appointed by John Mahama to serve as the Director of operations for the Pro NDC youth group.

On February 3, 1984, John Dumelo was born in Hohoe, Ghana’s Volta Region. His acting career began at the Christ the King International School in Accra, where he received his fundamental education. At the age of 7, he played Saka in the film “Baby Thief.”

He completed his secondary studies at Achimota School before appearing in Suncity, his debut serial drama. He then proceeded to KNUST, where he eventually earned a degree in civil engineering.

The politician-turned-actor ran for the NDC in 2016 and was chosen by John Mahama to lead the Pro NDC youth organization’s operations.


He ran for and won the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat on August 24, 2020, but on December 7, 2020, Lydia Alhassan of the NPP defeated him.
Dumelo also runs a farm and owns a business.

He is wed to Gifty Mawunya Dumelo, a lawyer who practices in the UK.

Fred Nuamah

Although being an Ada and Obuasi native, Fred Nuamah was born in Accra. When he appeared in the feature film “Matters of the heart,” he became famous.

The CEO of the award ceremony that honors achievement in the Ghanaian film industry, Fred Nuamah, founded the Ghana Movie Awards.

Although they are currently divorced, he was legally wed to Martekor Quaye.

He will be running for the position for the first time.

The NDC, meanwhile, has scheduled its presidential and legislative primaries for May 13, 2023. The party states that parliamentary candidates will need to pay GH5,000 for a form and GH40,000 for a non-refundable filing fee.


Meanwhile, presidential candidates will be required to purchase a form for GH¢30,000 and pay a non-refundable filing fee of GH¢500,000.
