American Vice President Kamala Harris has received harsh criticism from Kwesi Pratt for her comments made while visiting Ghana.
At Jubilee House, Kamala Harris told the press that the US was in favor of the gay community.
Standing next to the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Mrs. Harris expressed her “very strong” support for the development of LGBTQ+ rights throughout the continent.
“I will also say that this is an issue that we consider and I consider to be a human rights issue and that will not change,” she said.
On Wednesday, she also announced a $1 billion initiative to improve women’s economic empowerment in Africa.
“Improving the economic status of women and girls is not only a matter of human rights, justice and equity, it is also a strategic imperative that reduces poverty and promotes sustainable economic growth,” she emphasized.
Yet, Mr. Pratt has criticized the United States for its stance on Africa and for appearing to be forcing its rights on African nations..
“If you knew democracy, would racism be so rampant in your country? If you knew democracy, would you have gone to Iraq to kill one million people? You supported Apartheid. You showed the way for Nelson Mandela to be arrested. Are you the ones to teach us democracy?”, he questioned.
These were said by Mr. Pratt on the “Kokrokoo” morning show on Peace FM..
